The CIF Repurposing for Advancing Coal Transition (ReACT) Tool offers a preliminary, step-by-step assessment to identify the most suitable coal power plants (CPPs) for early retirement. The Tool can also evaluate potential options to repurpose a selected CPP using a range of climate-smart alternatives (both energy and non-energy related).
The two modules may either be used sequentially or independently depending on the objective of the user. A pre-feasibility study may ultimately be required to understand synergies between the selected CPP and the relevant repurposing options.
Module 1: Coal Power Plant Selection
This module helps to assess, prioritize, and rank a set of CPPs that are under consideration for early retirement using a weighted list of technical and non-technical criteria.
Module 2: Repurposing Concept Selection
This module helps to assess optimal and feasible strategies for repurposing CPPs. Either the Coal Power Plant Selection Step or other/external methods can identify these strategies. The ReACT assessment process takes into consideration a list of pre-determined possible solutions that can be applied to repurpose the chosen CPP(s).
